2011: Group Urges Deltans Support for KpokpogriBy Okpare Onojeghen As the heat for the g o v e r n o r s h i p race for 2011 in the state gain momentum, Delta State Coalition for Change has urged Deltans to support the candidature of Rear- Admiral John Onoriode Kpokpogri (Rtd), as the man to take Delta State from the present group of cabals, which have wrecked the state treasury. The group in a press statement in Warri on Monday said the time has come when Deltans needs to take their destiny in their hands to put an end to this unacceptable state of affair where Deltans have no input to their own governance in the state. In the statement signed by Chief Azuka Nwadiashi (Delta North), Mr. Johnson Erukaye (Delta Central) and Chief Brandson Ofuya for Delta South all on behalf of the group who so desire change in Government House Asaba, stated that Rear-Admiral Kpokpogri is a tested man who can surmount state of things in the state when elected. According to the statement, "the Delta State Coalition for Change therefore calls on Deltans to rise up and claim their right and access to their abundant god-given resources by supporting Rear Admiral John Onoriode Kpokpogri (Rtd) as Governor, 2011." The statement further said that, "we must all act together to put an end to massive looting of our state resources by a few individual who by so doing have left our state underdeveloped with resultant high unemployment and crime rate in spite of our abundant natural resources. "The time to act is now. Delay is dangerous. Therefore, we must all concert together to redeem our state from the vice -grip of looters and plunderers and together we will march to the promise land." The body claimed that democracy in the state has become dynastic rule where the people watch helplessly while their power to decide who governs them has been hijacked by agents who then bestow it on their chosen disciples. The promised to mobilize support in three senatorial districts for Kpokpogri. |
