Ogobene Gets Ughelli Chieftaincy Title

Orogun kingdom in Ughelli North local government Area of Delta State on Monday , January 4, stood still as they welcomed with honour yet another of their illustrious sons, Chief (Dr) Emmanuel Ogobene who was bestowed with the third traditional Chieftaincy title of "Obene R' Ovie" of Ughelli kingdom by HRM, Oharisi III, the Ovie of Ughelli kingdom.

Shortly before the traditional beads were hung over his neck to declare him a traditional Chief of Ughelli kingdom, the Royal father Oharisi III urged triple Chief (Dr) Ogobene to be a true representative of the Ughelli Monarchy, traditions and customs of the Ughelli people in Orogun kingdom where he hails from and any other place or places he may find himself.

The Monarch while advising the new but old Chief, Dr. Ogobene on the importance of traditional Chieftaincy positions, explained that traditional titles are given to only responsible persons who have contributed immensely to the development of the kingdom and the society at large adding that as custodian of tradition, he is expected to be good ambassador of Ughelli kingdom.

He urged him to further keep the flag of Ughelli kingdom flying in Nigeria and across Nigeria boarders, saying, anyone who miss use the opportunity and honours done to him could be stripped off his titles and to this end, the Monarch urged Chief Ogobene (the Obene r' ovie) of Ughelli kingdom to always relate with other chiefs of the kingdoms with a view to bringing peace and development to the kingdom.

Responding, the triple chief, Chief Emmanuel Ogobene on behalf of his family and entire people of Orogun thanked the Ovie of Ughelli kingdom, HRM, Oharisi III and all the Chiefs of the kingdom for the honour done to him, promising to be up and doing in discharging his duties as a traditional chief in Ughelli kingdom.

Chief Ogobene recalled that he has been a chief in two kingdoms, the "Ochi Urhobo of Idoma land" in Benue State where he stayed for many years and in Orogun kingdom where he hails from before accepting yet another traditional title from a mother kingdom, Ughelli, and assured that he would continue to play a good role as a traditional chief, knowing fully well the benefits of being a chief.

He said he derived his traditional title "obene r' ovie" from his father's name, Ogobene which he interpreted to mean let's enjoy together.

Also commenting on the chieftaincy title for Dr. Ogobene, Chief Hon. Shedrack Imonieroh of Orogun kingdom described the traditional title on Ogobene by the Ovie of Ughelli as very timely and a merited, praising the Monarch for his good choice and wisdom in handling traditional issues.

Some of the those present at the ceremony includes notable chief's of Orogun kingdom led by the Ukomor of Orogun kingdom, members Chief Johnson Akporugo, of United Mandate for Uduaghan 2011 led by Sandra Okotie and many others.
